Sit – Stand Desk / Height Adjustable

July 26, 2017

The sit-stand desk has been a hot topic in the office furniture industry. Let’s just clarify this straight away, when using a sit-stand desk you are not meant to stand all the time, this can have bad implications to your health especially if you are used to sitting down all day. You want to alternate from sitting and standing, some jobs will be more natural standing up and vice versa.

What exactly is a sit-stand desk?

A sit-stand desk (also called a stand-up desk or height adjustable) is a desk which can be either manually or electronically adjusted to sitting or standing height to prevent problems associated with prolonged sitting.

Why should you buy a sit-stand desk?

Many studies show that sitting for more than 6 hours a day is linked to being overweight, obese, having type 2 diabetes and some types of cancer.

With technology such as computers, television and video consoles changing our work and leisure habits, it seems we’re spending increasing amounts of our lives sitting down. There is no doubt this is seriously impacting the nation’s health. In fact one of the largest pieces of research on the topic to date found that a sedentary lifestyle can cause:

  • 112% increase in risk of diabetes

  • 147% increase in cardiovascular events

  • 90% increase in death caused by cardiovascular events

  • 49% increase in death from any cause

What are the benefits of a sit-stand desk?

An adjustable height sit-stand desk gives you the option to sit or stand throughout the day, keeping your muscles active and reducing the risk of aches and pains caused by repetitive movements.

  • Increased alertness, concentration and productivity.

  • Improved blood circulation.

  • Relief from muscle ache caused by static posture.

  • Flexibility to adjust your working position to the task at hand.

  • Burn more calories.

Does your business really need one?

We do understand that the investment of a sit-stand desk is quite considerable. However the benefits are clear to see as discussed above. A cheap alternative would be to have a standing desk and allow employees to use when they want. Another cost effective idea would be to invest in one and use it as a general work space for all employees to use.

In some offices the height adjustable desk works are essential such as graphic design, engineering or anything that involves a more hands on approach.
